Introduction

Charuchandra College was founded in 1947 and from the onset of the College, Department of Chemistry has been an important department. It is also considered as a department of good repute under University Of Calcutta. Chemistry as a subject of study was introduced as General Course level from very beginning of the College. Honours course was introduced in 1997. From the very onset, the Department has continued to attract a large number of students every year. Students mostly come from rural and semirural background yet their performance have always been consistent. The Department always tries to provide basic and advanced facilities to students. The departmental infrastructure is continuously upgraded with constant monitoring. The faculty members of the department are highly enthusiastic and passionate about teaching as well as other departmental, college and University assignments. Laboratories have been well equipped with instruments of latest models, although there remains scope for further modernization. Our department also organizes quiz, seminars, and exhibition to enrich students with newer ideas and modern development in the subject, making them aware of the present day progress in the field of Chemistry. These activities not only make student teacher relationship healthy but it also boost up their confidence. Theyounger teachers are actively engaged in research work while the senior teachers are involved in important University assignments. Stock register, Student attendance and results, student profile, Teachers’ profile and other records are maintained and computed yearly on a regular basis. From the beginning, it has been the endeavor of the Department to maintain a close relation with students to ensure their all-round development.
